The link between the Mediterranean Sea and Naples has forged the characteristics and unique personality of the Neapolitan capital.
Although the first choice when visiting Naples is to focus on the artistic and cultural-historical sights, the city also offers the possibility of a nice day at the beach, thanks to beautiful and renowned beaches. Whether you are looking for a location for a nice swim or a perfect place for families with young children to have fun and relax, here are our favorite beaches in Naples!
A dip near Donn'Anna Palace.
A lavish and spectacular location to cool off in calm, crystal-clear waters. The beaches adjacent to the 17th-century Palazzo Donn'Anna, in the heart of Posillipo, are perfect for families with young children. Some of the private establishments that manage access to these beaches are so old that they have become iconic. Among them is Bagno Elena, which has been in existence since 1840 and has seen nobles and VIPs pass between deckchairs and sunbeds. According to tradition, even Oscar Wilde liked to spend his lazy days by the sea here. The beach is divided into three main areas: the central pier is dotted with comfortable sun loungers for lounging in the warmth, while the two side beaches are ideal for families, thanks to the shallow, calm seabed and the presence of many comfortable umbrellas and sun loungers.
Nature and crystal clear waters, here is the Gaiola
Gaiola Beach is ideal for snorkeling and for those who love settings rich in naturalism. Gaiola is unquestionably one of the most beautiful beaches in Naples. Admission is always free and it is advisable, from June onward, to arrive early enough in the morning to avoid overcrowding. Gaiola is in fact one of the most popular beaches for Neapolitans and tourists alike. Located along the Posillipo coast at the northwestern end of the Gulf of Naples, the beach is an integral part of the Underwater Park of the same name, which has the status of a "protected national marine park." The area is divided into two parts: zone A is a protected nature reserve, while zone B allows a maximum of 100 visitors per day. The sea here is clear and calm: fishing and speedboat access are prohibited.
The Green Rocks, beauty and relaxation
Along the coast of Posillipo, at the northwestern end of the Gulf of Naples, there is a magical place. These are the so-called Rocce Verdi, cliffs overlooking pools of salt water. When the sun shines and warms the area, the boulders take on the color from which this magical seaside location gets its name. Access is privately managed, but visitor services are numerous. From comfortable sunbeds, to the chance to dive into one of the two large saltwater pools overlooking the bay, to the many options offered by the bar and restaurant. Capri and the entire Sorrento peninsula can also be admired in the distance. Visitors also have the option of renting kayaks to paddle into the tranquil bay and enjoy the view.
