Handicrafts and souvenirs, take a piece of Naples with you!

The charm of Naples is also in the souvenirs and handicrafts that characterise its artistic and cultural landscape. An element that has always fascinated tourists and visitors alike. Here are shops and typical products not to be missed when visiting the Neapolitan city.

Nativity scenes and shepherds

The tradition of the Neapolitan nativity scene is world-famous and has its roots in the work of local craftsmen, with the first workshops established as early as the 18th century. The Neapolitan nativity scene is a very special type of nativity scene, famous for its realistic figures with human and expressive features. The shepherds of the Neapolitan nativity scene do not limit themselves to depicting the Nativity scene but also include daily life, trades, workshops, transferring the colour and folklore of an ancient Naples continuously evoked by the art of the master craftsmen into the nativity scene.

The street of San Gregorio Armeno, in the heart of the old city centre, is famous for being the location of numerous workshops specialising in nativity scenes and shepherds and, especially during the Christmas period, is literally stormed by tourists. In San Gregorio Armeno, one is spoilt for choice. Between nativity scenes and shepherds, the master craftsmen give free rein to their creativity by also making beautiful figurines in honour of personalities from the worlds of entertainment, sport and current affairs.

Capodimonte Porcelain

The Capodimonte Royal Porcelain Factory was established in 1743 by King Charles III of Bourbon, together with his wife Maria Amalia. Passionate about art and jealous of their creation, the factory produced for years exquisite statues and tableware in precious porcelain, later named 'Capodimonte' to identify a unique and original style and type, which can still be admired today in the collection of the Capodimonte National Museum. Even if you are not an antique dealer or collector, however, you can buy Capodimonte porcelain objects in one of the many shops or craft workshops in the city.

Men's tailoring

Made-to-measure shirts, ties, elegant suits. The Neapolitan men's tailoring tradition is world-famous and, even today, boasts renowned and celebrated brands and historic workshops. To take home an elegant and sophisticated souvenir of Naples, a bespoke tie or shirt may be the most appropriate choice. Quality fabrics, accurate workmanship, creativity and craftsmanship make Neapolitan tailoring for men one of the highest points of elegance made in Italy.

Gastronomic tradition

Limoncello, sun-dried tomatoes, taralli, buffalo mozzarella, cured meats, cheeses, sweet biscuits. The list of Neapolitan and regional delicacies that can be transformed into welcome souvenirs to take with you at the end of your trip is practically endless. These are traditional products that, even today, are still made in accordance with the old original recipes, with care and craftsmanship. So much goodness that can be easily found in shops but also in the more traditional markets, from Porta Nolana to Pignasecca.
