Three jewels that stand out in the Gulf of Naples. The islands of Ischia, Capri and Procida represent three different tourist attractions, each with its own beauty and characteristics. However, they are united by the offer of evocative landscapes and many wonderful places to visit. Not to mention the sparkling waters to dive into, the rich and lush vegetation and the effervescent nightlife.
If you are planning a visit to Naples, you cannot miss a trip to one of the three beautiful islands, also because it is very easy to get there from Naples: just buy a ticket for one of the many ferries and hydrofoils that depart daily from the ports of Naples and Pozzuoli and get on board for an unforgettable day!
Capri, unique and inimitable
Describing the beauty and unique, magical atmosphere of Capri is difficult.
The emotions that this island is able to give must be experienced: few places in the world can emulate its poetry and uniqueness. Artists, writers, poets have loved and continue to love Capri, its elegance and uniqueness.
Thanks to the limestone origin of its terrain, the island has many steep cliffs, natural stone arches, limestone crags, stone mountains such as Pizzolungo and the famous Faraglioni, which have become one of the island's symbolic images. The Grotta Azzurra is one of the unmissable excursions when visiting Capri. It is an enchanting place that immerses visitors in a scene of fantastic colours. Also worth a visit is the Belvedere di Tragara, a vantage point from which the entire Gulf of Naples can be admired at a glance.
Between Capri and Anacapri, you cannot miss a visit to interesting places such as the Charterhouse of San Giacomo, the Hermitage of Santa Maria di Cetrella and Villa Jovis, chosen by the Emperor Tiberius as his private residence.
Ischia, green and spectacular
It stands majestically in front of Naples and, of the three islands in the Gulf, is the largest. Ischia, also called the 'green' island because of its natural beauty, is subdivided into six municipalities and is visited every year by millions of tourists who are always surprised by its extraordinary beauty and beaches set between high promontories and mountains such as the ancient volcano Epomeo. It is precisely the volcanic origin of the island that has made Ischia one of the most important thermal centres in Europe, where it is possible to cure and relax thanks to the presence of muds, fumaroles and healthy waters that flow from countless springs.
Even the centre of the island reserves pleasant surprises, thanks to dozens of streets, small shops and ancient churches such as the Cathedral of the Assunta, a 16th-century basilica decorated with frescoes that recall the Giotto school. Also worth visiting are the Castle dating back to 474 B.C., the Santuario del Soccorso, in the charming centre of Forio, the astronomical observatory of Monte Sentinella and Borgo Sant'Angelo. In this tiny village in the southern part of the island, visitors can enjoy some peace surrounded by natural wonders and a breathtaking sea.
Procida, the smallest and most naturalistic
Of the three splendid pearls of the Gulf of Naples, Procida is the smallest but is pure, wild and almost untouched. Procida is ideal if you want to spend magical moments in contact with nature. It is connected by a bridge to the island of Vivara, another small marine jewel protected as a Natural Archaeological Park. Arriving on Procida, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a paradisiacal and picturesque environment. In particular, in the area near the harbour, many pretty shops, restaurants and the typical colourful houses, reminiscent of the old fishermen's villages, help to give those who arrive an unforgettable postcard. Perfect as a summer destination thanks to its spectacular beaches - Pozzo Vecchio, Chiaia, Ciraccio, Chiaiolella - it is also ideal for a romantic weekend off-season. Famous also for the warm hospitality of its inhabitants, Procida offers both the possibility of romantic dinners by the sea and exciting excursions, such as the ascent to the promontory of Terra Murata, to see from above all the beauty of the Gulf of Naples.
